I work as a software engineer for a company that develops applications for health care providers. One day, I was assigned to work on a feature that would allow doctors to access patients' medical records from their smartphones. The feature was supposed to improve efficiency and convenience, but it also raised some privacy and security concerns.

The dilemma was whether to implement the feature as requested by the client, or to suggest some modifications that would enhance the protection of the patients' data. On one hand, I wanted to respect the client's wishes and deliver the product on time and within budget. On the other hand, I felt responsible for the potential risks and harms that could result from a data breach or misuse.

I decided to consult with my supervisor and colleagues about the issue. We had a discussion and agreed that the feature needed some additional safeguards, such as encryption, authentication, and consent. We then contacted the client and explained our concerns and recommendations. The client was initially reluctant, but after we showed them some examples of how other apps handled similar situations, they agreed to our proposal.

I think I behaved ethically in this situation because I followed my professional code of conduct and respected the values of honesty, integrity, and social responsibility. I also communicated effectively with my stakeholders and sought feedback from others. I know I behaved ethically because I felt satisfied with my decision and did not regret it later.
