Question: According to the poet who is responsible for the condition or state of the man with the hoe?
The powerful and the healthy people have subjected the man with the hoe to a life of toil, servitude and deprivation. He toils from morning until night, with his back bent, he is tiring and worn out physically and mentally. His arduous labor provides for the needs of the powerful and healthy and yet he remains without respite in his labor. His hands have become calloused and his clothes worn and tattered, but he is powerless to escape his fate. He is a symbol of the unequal power dynamics that exist in the world and a reminder of the unjust treatment of the disenfranchised and exploited.
