Question: Describe the greenhouse effect in your own words class 8?
The greenhouse effect is a natural process that helps to keep the Earth warm enough for life. It works like this: The Sun sends energy to the Earth as shortwave radiation, which passes through the atmosphere. Some of this energy is reflected back into space, but some is absorbed by the Earth's surface and makes it warmer. The Earth's surface then emits some of this energy as longwave radiation, which tries to escape back into space. However, some of the longwave radiation is trapped by certain gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide, water vapour, and methane. These gases are called greenhouse gases because they act like a blanket around the Earth and prevent some of the heat from escaping. This makes the Earth warmer than it would be without the greenhouse effect.
