Question: Describe what happens to water when it is heated?
Water is a substance that can exist in different states depending on its temperature. When water is heated, it gains thermal energy and its molecules move faster. If the water is in a solid state (ice), heating it will cause it to melt and become liquid. If the water is in a liquid state, heating it will cause it to evaporate and become gas. If the water is in a gas state (steam), heating it will cause it to expand and increase its pressure. The process of changing states due to heating is called phase transition.
