Question: What are amphoteric oxides give two examples?
Amphoteric oxides are oxides that can act as either an acid or a base. Examples of amphoteric oxides include aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and zinc oxide (ZnO). These oxides have a variety of coordinative abilities, depending on the pH of the solution they are in. At low pH values (acidic solutions) they can act as an acid and donate protons; while in high pH solutions (basic solutions) they can act as a base and accept protons.
