Question: Identify the present day country that broke away from the southern continents to join the northern continents of today?
Based on my research, the present day country that broke away from the southern continents to join the northern continents of today is India.
India was part of a large landmass called Gondwana, which was a supercontinent that formed during the late Neoproterozoic (about 550 million years ago) and began to break up during the Jurassic period (about 180 million years ago). Gondwana included the present-day continents of South America, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, and India.
India broke away from Gondwana about 120 million years ago and started drifting northward at a fast rate of about 5 centimeters per year. It eventually collided with Eurasia about 50 million years ago, forming the Himalayan mountains and joining the northern continents.
