Question: If you belong in a society with cultural standards, like a suri of africa or a padaung of myanmar, will you accept and do what they require to make you beautiful? why or why not?
Beauty is a subjective concept that varies across cultures and time periods. Some societies have specific rituals or practices that are considered to enhance or display beauty, such as neck elongation among the Padaung of Myanmar or lip plates among the Suri of Ethiopia. These practices may seem strange or even harmful to outsiders, but they are deeply rooted in the history, identity and values of these groups.
If I belonged to one of these societies, I would probably accept and do what they require to make me beautiful, because I would have grown up with these norms and expectations. I would also want to fit in with my community and avoid being ostracized or discriminated against. However, I would also hope that I would have some degree of choice and agency over my own body and appearance, and that I would not be forced or coerced into doing something that I did not want to do or that would harm me physically or mentally.
I think that beauty is more than just physical appearance, and that it also reflects one's personality, character and values. I think that everyone should be respected and appreciated for who they are, regardless of their looks or cultural background. I think that diversity is a source of richness and learning, and that we should celebrate rather than judge our differences.
