Question: Describe 2 possible psychological stressors?
Psychological stressors are events or situations that trigger a stress response in our minds and bodies. They can affect our mood, behavior, health and well-being. There are many types of psychological stressors, but here are two possible examples:
- A traumatic event, such as an accident, a natural disaster, a violent attack or a loss of a loved one. These events can cause intense fear, shock, grief, anger or guilt. They can also lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is a chronic condition that involves intrusive memories, nightmares, flashbacks, avoidance and hyperarousal.
- A chronic challenge, such as a demanding job, a financial problem, a relationship conflict or a chronic illness. These challenges can cause frustration, anxiety, depression, burnout or hopelessness. They can also affect our physical health by weakening our immune system, increasing our blood pressure or causing insomnia.
